Bubble dynamics in Liquid Hole Multipliers

چکیده

Abstract In bubble-assisted Liquid Hole Multipliers (LHM), developed for noble-liquid radiation detectors, the stability of bubble and electro-mechanical properties liquid-to-gas interface play a dominant role in detector performance. A model is proposed to evaluate static equilibrium configurations sustained underneath perforated electrode immersed liquid. For first time bubbles were optically observed LAr; their studied contact with different material surfaces. This permitted investigating bubble-electrodynamics via numerical simulations; it was shown that electric field acts as an additional pressure term on meniscus. The predictions successfully validated using X-ray micro-CT water silicone oil at STP. results this study are important milestone towards understanding optimizing parameters LHM-based detectors.

Cavitation bubble dynamics inside liquid drops in microgravity.

We studied spark-generated cavitation bubbles inside water drops produced in microgravity. High-speed visualizations disclosed unique effects of the spherical and nearly isolated liquid volume. In particular, (1) toroidally collapsing bubbles generate two liquid jets escaping from the drop, and the "splash jet" discloses a remarkable broadening. (2) Shock waves induce a strong form of secondary...

Bubble Nucleation in Superheated Liquid-Liquid Emulsions

An investigation of the process by which bubbles form in superheated liquid-liquid emulsions is reported. A theoretical model for the rate of bubble nucleation is developed that is valid for any binary liquid system. Because of the interesting "microexplosion" phenomenon postulated to occur during combustion of fuel/water emulsions, special attention is focused on hydrocarbon/ water/surfactant ...

Bubble dynamics in DNA

The formation of local denaturation zones (bubbles) in double-stranded DNA is an important example for conformational changes of biological macromolecules. We study the dynamics of bubble formation in terms of a Fokker-Planck equation for the probability density to find a bubble of size n base pairs at time t, on the basis of the free energy in the Poland-Scheraga model. Characteristic bubble c...

Bubble interactions in liquid/gas flows

The system of equations, usually employed for unsteady liquid/gas flows, has complex characteristics. This as well as other facts have led to the search for a more accurate description of effects associated with relative motion. For liquid/bubble systems the fluctuations resulting from hydrodynamic interaction between the bubbles may be taken into account in the same way as particle interaction...

Bubble dynamics in a compressible liquid in contact with a rigid boundary.

A bubble initiated near a rigid boundary may be almost in contact with the boundary because of its expansion and migration to the boundary, where a thin layer of water forms between the bubble and the boundary thereafter. This phenomenon is modelled using the weakly compressible theory coupled with the boundary integral method. The wall effects are modelled using the imaging method. The numeric...
